Position Overview:

The Market Restaurant Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the restaurant’s operations, including people management, supply chain, marketing, customer service, food quality and safety, inventory control, financial performance, and adherence to health and safety regulations. The Restaurant Manager leads the restaurant’s team to ensure an exceptional dining experience for all customers, while maintaining profitability and operating efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Staff Management & Development

  • Lead, motivate, and manage the entire restaurant team.
  • Oversee hiring, developing of an onboarding package for new hires, and ongoing training of staff to ensure excellent customer service, high levels of performance and adherence to restaurant standards and safety regulations.
  • Create and manage staff schedules to ensure optimal staffing during peak hours and seasons while staying within budget.
  • Develop performance contracts, conduct regular performance reviews, provide feedback, coach team members to improve performance and morale, and innovatively provide recognition for excellent performance.
  • Professionally and efficiently address employee and customer concerns and resolve conflicts.

2. Customer Service & Experience

  • Ensure all The Market customers are satisfied with food quality, service, and overall experience. Handle customer complaints or concerns in a timely and professional manner.
  • Monitor food quality, cleanliness, and service throughout each shift to maintain a top-tier experience.
  • Continuously evaluate existing processes, ensure that the operational processes are well communicated with all staff to ensure standardized service and efficiency.

3. Financial Management

  • The incumbent will work closely with the Founder (Managing Director) to develop and manage the restaurant’s budget. Identify areas for cost reduction and efficiency improvements.
  • Closely monitor the restaurant’s financial performance and take corrective action as necessary to avoid revenue loss, meet and exceed financial goals.
  • Oversee inventory levels, ordering, and stock rotation to ensure adequate supply without overstocking. Manage waste reduction practices to minimize loss.
  • Ensure proper cash handling, register reconciliation, and daily reporting of financial results.
  • Familiarize with the best supply chain management models that are suitable for the restaurant to ensure the most favorable pricing of the best quality of inputs.

4. Operations & Quality Control

  • Co-develop/ evaluate the restaurant processes. Redesign processes as needed to optimize speed and efficiency. Ensure that all staff are conversant with the restaurant processes in order to excel in their roles.
  • Ensure the restaurant operations adhere to all health, safety, and sanitation guidelines. Oversee proper food handling, cleanliness, and kitchen safety standards.
  • Ensure the restaurant is always in good working order, including equipment, lighting, plumbing, and all systems.

5. Marketing

  • Work with marketing staff to promote the restaurant through all platforms and partnerships.
  • Represent The Market Restaurant brand and ensure the restaurant maintains a positive public image.
  • Build and maintain relationships with regular customers and attract new guests through exceptional service and customer care.

Qualifications:

  • Education: A minimum degree in Hospitality Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in the restaurant industry, with at least 3 years in a managerial position. Experience in a fast-paced, high-volume environment is highly desirable.

Skills:

  • Strong leadership and team management abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Financial acumen, including budgeting and cost management.
  • Practical knowledge of Restaurant specific Health and Safety Regulations
  • A certification in Health and safety will be an added advantage.
  • Exceptional customer service skills with a focus on problem-solving.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and restaurant management software.
  • Proficiency in Supply chain management and negotiation skills.
