An opportunity exists to join this Investor in People Company in the above capacity. Metropolitan Lesotho is a wholly owned subsidiary of Momentum Metropolitan Group, a company registered on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange. We are currently looking for a dynamic and self-motivated individual in the position of Legal Advisor based in Maseru, Lesotho. The incumbent will report directly to the Head of Corporate Affairs – Lesotho.

Role Purpose

To manage the protection of company legal interests through legal advice, employee relations support and contracts management.

Requirements

  • LLB, any equivalent/relevant degree with 3-4 years of experience

                            OR

  • A Certificate in Contract Management with 6 years contract drafting and review experience will be added advantage
  • 2 years in legal and drafting environment; and board governance

Duties & Responsibilities

  • To Operationalize the requirements of the Legal Risk Management Policy (LRMP) through coordinated activities that assists business to implement in their respective areas, sound risk management practices.
  • To review, draft and negotiate agreements.
  • To manage Contract Register
  • To drive contract lifecycle from drafting through completion of the negotiation process, and/or contract execution.
  • To Manage contract change control process and related correspondence requiring legal input.
  • To draft, manage, and review of Legal documents for procurement committee.
  • To interpret contracts and advises business on contractual terms and responsibilities.
  • To report, provide support to the business by monitoring and review of compliance with the said policies in order to give assurance to Management and the Board about the effectiveness of the policies.
  • To ensure that Management, Board of Directors are kept abreast with relevant issues in the company by regularly reporting to them.
  • To provide general research and support to business, interpret legal documents and support business development with legal expertise.
  • To service as local liaison for external counsel and to ensure that they are given effective access to information enabling them to provide prosecute or defend cases on behalf of the company.  
  • To support to Human Resources employee relations to secure fair procedures in terms of the law.
  • To support Forensic office for purposes of ensuring management of legal risk in the fraud risk management processes.
  • To provide corporate secretarial support maintain best practices in corporate governance and (minute meetings, maintain work plans, coordinate meetings)
