ADOLESCENT AND YOUTH EMPOWERMENT NURSE MIDWIVE

Position Overview

Lesotho has made considerable progress towards improving Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR) and Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) outcomes amongst adolescent girls and young women. Nevertheless, Lesotho still has the second highest HIV prevalence in the world and teenagers have unmet needs in their access to comprehensive sexual and reproductive health services. The situation is worse in rural districts like Mokhotlong where teenage pregnancies are one of the highest in Lesotho. The adolescent and youth empowerment project (AHYEP) by SolidarMed in Mokhotlong district, aims to improve SRH outcomes for adolescents and young people.

Adolescent Health Nurses will be based at participating health facilities and support the organization and coordination of the project; provide clinical consultations and implement project activities among other duties as outlined below:

Place Of Assignment

SolidarMed Mokhotlong (Adolescents and Youth Health Centers at Mapholaneng)

Main Tasks and Responsibilities:
  • Ensure that healthcare provided at the ADH corner is in line with National Minimum Standards for Adolescent Friendly services and delivered according to National Guidelines
  • Exchange regularly with Facility Nurses
  • Ensure proper and accurate documentation of all services provided in ADH corner registers and SolidarMed monitoring tools.
  • Participate in the Mokhotlong district Adolescent technical working group meetings.
  • Assist the health centre in their data management with special attention to patient files.
  • Contribute to implementation of activities and updating of the Project yearly plan of operations (YPO) monthly.
  • Conduct collection of data on Youth Project indicators monthly or as when requested by Project Manager and Technical Director
  • Ensure appropriate flow of relevant information from SolidarMed to Health facility and vice-versa.
  • Liaise with partners at Mokhotlong district, DHMT, NGOs and other stakeholders.
  • Ensure proper monitoring and reporting of all activities related to Youth project at the site.
  • Engage actively in implementation research activities as identified and elaborated in the project log-frame.
  • Liaise with partners (NGOs, MoH) regularly to exchange on operational research findings.
  • Identify proactively ideas within the project context to conduct operational research Conduct community campaigns to provide continuous supervise Peer Educator in performing peer to peer education at community level.
  • Conduct annual training of peer educator on adolescents and youth health related issues including Comprehensive sexuality education (CSE)
  • Conduct monthly meetings for peer educators as a form of continuous capacitation.
Skills, Required Experience and Competencies:
  • Work and reside in Mokhotlong.
  • Proven ability to work both independently and as an effective team member;
  • Proven ability to prioritize and handle multiple on- going assignments;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office, particularly Excel;
  • Excellent organizational skills;
  • Excellent time management;
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving ability
Qualifications Essential
  • Degree or Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery
  • Familiar with Comprehensive Sexuality Education
  • Two years’ experience in the Midwife profession and working with Non-Governmental Organizations.
