Job Presentation

Partners In Health is the implementer under the TB Elimination project. The project is aimed at accelerating the reduction in TB incidences and mortality, improve access to highly sensitive and rapid diagnostics, ensure access to quality-assured and patient-centered care and contribute to the reduction of catastrophic costs.


To realize this great mission, PIH-Lesotho has a goal to screen everybody, test all presumptive TB clients, initiate all newly diagnosed TB patients, conduct contact tracing, test all the contacts and initiate all eligible clients on TB preventive Therapy. PIH Lesotho will implement innovative community and facility based interventions in Lebakeng, Tlhanyaku, Bobete, Methalaneng, Manamaneng and in the entire district of Mohale’s Hoek district.


Partners In Health- Lesotho (PIH-Ls) is looking for competent candidates to fill in the following position (s):

Title: Laboratory Technician
Reports to: Laboratory Head

Position Overview:


The Laboratory technician at Partners In Health is primarily accountable for the conducting requested examinations and reporting results timely as per established standard operating procedures. The laboratory technician is expected to implement, adhere and maintain the established equipment maintenance program. Also should adhere to ISO 15189:2022 requirements to support the laboratory initiative towards accreditation.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
    • Adhere to Laboratory safety measures/SOPS
    • To receive samples at the laboratory and check sample details against the sample / test request form when necessary
    • Conduct and perform examination tests as per SOPs to meet the set results turn around times
    • Report urgent and critical results as per the set guidelines and SOPS
    • Conduct urgent examination requests within the set turnaround times and report results timely
    • Submit timely reports as per the assigned duties
    • Implement quality management system as per established SOPs, manuals, guidelines.
    • Adhere to the requirements of ISO 15189: 2022 and relevant standards to support the laboratory towards achieving accreditation by complying to the established systems within the laboratory and reports the non-conformances to the laboratory head
    • Verifies and validates all examination results
    • Completes tests records in information systems
    • Performs preventative maintenance on equipment as per the SOPs and equipment maintenance program and reports the non-conformances to the Laboratory head
    • Maintain proper inventory and stock supplies and adhere to the processes and activities as per the SOPS and guiding tools and reports the non-conformances to the Laboratory head or designee
    • Maintain record keeping
    • Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Executive Director or Senior Management of the employer.
    Minimum Requirements
    • Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences
    • Minimum of 2 years working experience in Medical Laboratory Services
    • Strong pathophysiology understanding in terms of interpreting patient results
    • Good understanding of quality management systems relevant to ISO 15189
    • Strong communication and writing skills
