A medical Cannabis flower and extract producer, based in Lesotho is seeking the above to oversee the daily operations of the cultivation facilities, ensuring the optimal growth and production of high-quality cannabis plants.Minimum requirements for the role:
- Must have a bachelor’s degree in horticulture, agriculture, botany, or a related field
- Minimum 8 years’ experience in crop cultivation, with at least 3 years in a managerial role will be required
- Strong understanding of plant biology (cannabis experience a plus but not a prerequisite), growth cycles, and cultivation techniques is essential
- Must have experience with cut flower production like Crysanthemums or vegetables
- Excellent knowledge of nutrient management, pest control, and environmental controls in crop cultivation is essential
- Must have the ability to work in a greenhouse or outdoor environment for extended periods
- Must have a valid passport and enjoy the remote outdoor lifestyle
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Overseeing and managing the daily activities of the cultivation team, including growers, technicians, and labourers.
- Analyzing cultivation data to assess performance and make data-driven decisions.
- Preparing and presenting reports on cultivation metrics, budget performance, and project outcomes to senior management.
- Developing and managing the cultivation budget, including expenses related to labour, supplies, utilities, and equipment.
- Developing and implementing training programs to ensure all staff are knowledgeable in cultivation practices, safety protocols, and regulatory compliance.
- Scheduling and assigning work to ensure optimal staffing levels and efficient use of resources.
- Managing the entire lifecycle of cannabis plants, from propagation and vegetative growth to flowering and harvesting.
- Fostering a productive and compliant culture within the workforce.
- Monitoring plant health, including nutrient levels, pH, and environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, light, etc.).
- Implementing integrated pest management (IPM) strategies to prevent and control pests and diseases.
- Ensuring proper mixing and application of nutrients, particularly when using growing mediums such as coir.
- Overseeing the maintenance and operation of all cultivation equipment, including lighting, irrigation, HVAC, and environmental control systems.
- Ensuring that the cultivation facility is clean, organized, and compliant with all regulations regarding cannabis production.
- Coordinating with the facilities team for repairs, upgrades, and maintenance as needed.
- Maintaining accurate records of plant counts, nutrient applications, pest control measures, and other key metrics.
- Preparing and submitting regular reports on cultivation performance, including yield data, plant health, and production costs.
- Continuously evaluating and improving cultivation practices to increase yield, potency, and overall plant quality.
- Staying informed about industry trends, new technologies, and advancements in cannabis cultivation.
- Implementing innovative solutions to optimize resource use, such as water, energy, and nutrients.
- Working closely with company top management and other departments, including extraction, processing, and sales, to align production with market demand.
- Participating in meetings and contributing to strategic planning for the cultivation operation.
