populations. Jhpiego empowers front-line health workers by designing and implementing effective, low-cost, hands-on solutions
that strengthen the quality of healthcare services, following the household-to-hospital continuum of care. Jhpiego also partners with
organizations from the community to the national levels, building sustainable, local capacity through advocacy, policy development,
health workforce strengthening, and quality and performance improvement approaches.


In Lesotho in particular, Jhpiego has been operating since 2012 through supporting the government of Lesotho in delivering health
services to the Basotho people. Jhpiego’s portfolio currently focuses on HIV/TB and COVID epidemic response and includes a range
of HIV and COVID-focused programming and research efforts, HIV (VMMC and PrEP), MOSAIC (biomedical HIV prevention including
Dipivefrine Ring Introduction), THEBE (TB Contact Tracing), (COVID Case Management and Vaccine Support), CUT-TB (RCT) and various
other small studies. Jhpiego is looking for a Program Coordinator to implement integrated community mental and TB Care project in
2 districts using the Friendship Bench Model. The incumbent will be based in the Jhpiego main office with 80% in the field to support
the implementation and coordination of activities at the district level


Jhpiego is looking for suitable candidate for the below vacant position.

Position: Program Coordinator/ Officer
Duration: 8 Months

Responsibilities

  • Under the supervision of the Programs Manager, the Program Coordinator will implement all activities of the integrated community mental health and TB Care Project in the 2 selected districts.
  • Organise and coordinate workshops, training and meetings and ensure proper documentation of such activities for reconciliation and knowledge management of the project.
  • Conduct activities to raise awareness of the Friendship Bench model, mental health conditions, and their prevention and treatment in
  • collaboration with Communications.
  • S/he will work closely with the Lay Therapists in the districts, Jhpiego district teams, stakeholders (including community leaders), DHMT and health centers within implementing community councils.
  • Conduct TOT in collaboration with Friendship Bench Partners.
  • As needed, monitor designated screening tools at specified intervals, record related data and provide short-term therapy to community
  • members on the Friendship Bench model.
  • Provide individual and, where indicated, group mental health awareness training
  • Mentor and supervise Lay Therapists (LTs) as they facilitate supported referrals according to the Pathways to Care for those with severe mental health conditions
  • Advise the LTs in solving complex situations that may arise during counselling sessions
  • Oversee the LTs’ referrals for clinical services, community resources or other additional needed services as determined through screening and assessment
  • Follow up with community providers to obtain feedback and recommendations about the Friendship Bench model.
  • Participate in TWG and district meetings as well as Jhpiego events

Qualifications, Experience and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health/social sciences or a relevant field with knowledge and experience in implementing TB/HIV prevention,
  • care and support interventions. A degree in Psychology is an added advantage.
  • At least 3 years of experience working in public health programs in Lesotho with knowledge of the Lesotho health system structure,
  • interventions and priorities
  • Skills and Abilities
  • Strong proficiency in computer skills, including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, internet navigation, and email, combined with well-developed soft skills.
  • Strong proficiency in writing and verbal communication in Sesotho and English.
  • Experience in working with CBOs, community leaders and other support groups within the communities.
