Tebellong LECSA Hospital in Qacha’s Nek invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for the following position;
Position: Nurse Anaesthetist
Responsible to: Coordinator Departmental Nursing Services
Grade: G
Job Summary:
Under the supervision of Coordinator Departmental Nursing Services, the Nurse Anaesthetist manages and cares for patients, and manages services in the hospital.
Job Requirements:
- Holder of a valid Diploma in General Nursing/ Midwifery and Anaesthesia.
- He/ She must be registered with the Lesotho Nursing Council
- Provide pain relief in the theatre and all other operating rooms during labour and delivery, and for those who suffer from chronic pain.
- Administer anaesthetic or sedation during medical procedures, using local, intravenous, spinal or caudal methods.
- Responsible for maintenance of the patient’s vital life functions- heart rate, body temperature, blood pressure, breathing- through continual monitoring and assessment during surgery.
- Confer with other medical professionals to determine type and method of anaesthetic or sedation to render patient insensible to pain.
- Decide when patients have recovered or stabilized enough to be sent to another room or ward or to be sent home following outpatient surgery.
- Examine patient, obtain medical history and use diagnostic tests to determine risk during surgical, obstetrical, and other medical procedures.
- Monitor patient before, during, and after anaesthesia and counteract and report adverse reactions or complications.
- Ensures that the equipment for administering anaesthesia is available and in good working condition at all times.
- Orders and controls anaesthetic, resuscitative medications, medical gases and intravenous fluids
- Ensures an environment that is physically, psychologically, socially and spiritually conducive for the wellbeing of the individual patient.
- Record type and amount of anaesthesia and patient condition throughout procedure.
- Position patient on operating table to maximize patient comfort and surgical accessibility.
- Provide and maintain life support and airway management, and help prepare patients for emergency surgery.
- Schedule and maintain use of surgical suite, including operating, wash up, theater rooms and anaesthetic and sterilizing equipment
- Refrains from giving anaesthesia where detrimental complications are envisaged.
- Will be involved in continuing education and research as well as utilizing knowledge and research findings in improving health care services.
- Educates, guides and supervise subordinates working with him/her.
- Maintains the principle of infection control in the department.
- Will be based in maternity ward as a Nursing Officer
- Will perform all other duties carried out by a Registered Nurse Midwife
Qualifications and Expectations
- Diploma / Degree in General Nursing/Midwifery and Anaesthesia
