We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Special Education Teacher to join our team and support our diverse learners.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement individualised education plans (IEPs) tailored to each student’s needs.
  • Conduct special education testing to identify learning disabilities.
  • Provide direct instruction and support to students with various learning disabilities and developmental challenges.
  • Collaborate with homeroom teachers, parents, and support staff to create an inclusive classroom environment.
  • Monitor and assess student progress, adjusting instructional strategies as needed.
  • Create a positive and engaging learning atmosphere that encourages student participation and growth.
  • Advocate for students’ needs and coordinate additional support services as required.
  • Collaborate with our current Learning Support teacher to create a strong Student Support Team and further develop our special needs program.
  • Provide pull out targeted interventions and push in classroom support as needed.
  • Gather, analyse, and monitor various forms of student data for teaching and learning purposes.
  • Teach a content area in middle and high school (ELA)

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education (Master’s degree preferred). Dual certification to teach Middle and High School subjects are strongly desired and preferred.
  • Valid special education teaching certificate
  • At least 5 years experience working with students with special needs (both diagnosed and undiagnosed) in an educational setting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team of educators and support staff.
  • Passion for fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment.

Experience using some or all of the following assessment tools:

  • Woodcock-Johnson Tests of Cognitive Abilities
  • Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC)
  • DIBELS (Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills)
  • AIMSweb
  • Behavior Assessment System for Children (BASC)
  • Conners 3: Assesses behavioural, emotional, and academic problems in children.
  • Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scales
  • RTI (Response to Intervention) Data Collection Tools
  • Evaluates students’ needs for assistive devices or technology to support learning.
