Main purpose of the job

OnePower Lesotho is seeking a Production Supervisor to ensure that the Production department supports OnePower in the manufacturing of products or parts through optimal utilization of the most suitable manufacturing technologies, production management and skilled craftsmanship. OnePower Lesotho, a startup Independent Power Producer (IPP), has been selected as the preferred developer of a 20MW solar PV power plant in Lesotho (the first in the country). In addition to on-grid solar OnePower was incorporated with a mission to develop bankable pay as you go (PAYG) solar mini-grids for community electrification and is currently in the piloting stage in Lesotho.

Minimum qualifications and experience

Technical/engineering qualification in mechanical engineering

2 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment with exposure to manufacturing processes and equipment

Ideal qualifications and experience

Diploma/degree in mechanical/industrial engineering

4 years’ experience in a factory environment with hands-on experience with manufacturing processes, manufacturing equipment and maintenance of equipment

Other requirements

Computer aided design and computer aided manufacturing experience (CAD/CAM) e.g. SolidWorks, Microsoft Excel, Word, time and attendance software programs, Knowledge of materials used for manufacturing

Responsibilities

  • Planning production of manufactured products/parts/assemblies and start the production process in good time
  • Plan, oversee and execute maintenance on manufacturing machines and equipment
  • Ensure the availability of consumables for the manufacturing machines/equipment and by maintaining a list and stock thereof
  • Responsible for material handling, stock control and inventory
  • Critical spares and consumables management
  • Nesting/arranging of parts to be manufactured using appropriate software
  • Develop and update SOP’s for manufacturing processes and operations, including but not limited to: welding, CNC plasma cutting, CNC milling, turning and various cutting, joining, assembly and fabrication methods.
  • Provide technical assistance on the ability to manufacture parts/products
  • Assess manufacturing implications of the engineering designs on the expected manufacturing characteristics of different parts/products
  • Interpret manufacturing drawings from engineering department and evaluate the best manufacturing process
  • Schedule and assign production tasks to team members
  • Determine the best manufacturing process and materials needed for each job
  • Compile and submit monthly budgets for planned jobs for approval
  • Keeping inventory of all parts produced and share with the asset management department
  • Discussing job cards with the relevant department that submitted the job card
  • Managing job cards from submission to completion
  • Updating of job cards with daily person-hours spent on a job and materials and consumables used
  • Oversee time management of production staff by means of submitted timesheets
  • Ensure that staff timesheets are submitted to approver in time
  • Ensure the delivery of good quality products/parts
  • Produce parts/assemblies that are manufactured correctly the first time
  • Oversee the completion and assessment of quality control on manufactured parts to ensure parts accuracy and quality
  • Assist in the implementation of risk assessment and mitigation
  • Oversee and enforce sound housekeeping practices to ensure a safe working environment
  • Staff can attend training when there is an opportunity and deemed relevant and necessary
  • Schedule informal/peer training and mentoring as needed
