Project Background
The project aims to enhance integrated land and water resource management by establishing a collaborative, multi-sectoral approach, aligned with the National Integrated Catchment Management Programme. The objective is to combat land degradation, improve agro-ecosystem services, and boost the livelihoods of agro-pastoral communities. Key outcomes include:
- Development of an Integrated Watershed Management Plan.
- Capacity building for local authorities to enforce land management regulations.
- Implementation of Sustainable Land Management practices over 34,500 ha.
- Gender mainstreaming and knowledge sharing.
Consultancy Overview
The Government of Lesotho and UNDP require an Environmental Safeguards and Social Risks Consultant to provide technical expertise, ensuring the project maximizes benefits, mitigates risks, and addresses social and environmental concerns effectively.
Qualifications and Experience
- Postgraduate degree in Natural Resources, Advanced Degree in Psychology, Law, or related fields.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in international development programmes focused on natural resources.
- Strong understanding of Integrated Watershed Management, Sustainable Land and Water Management, and related natural resource management issues.
- Experience in conducting large surveys and/or research.
- Understanding and experience in gender mainstreaming, gender equality, and women’s empowerment in natural resources management.
