Position Title: PEPFAR Media Outreach Coordinator
Salary: LSL L360,541 /Per Year
DUTIES
The PEPFAR Media Outreach Coordinator’s principal role is to promote and provide understanding of the U.S. Government’s initiative to fight HIV/AIDS (PEPFAR – the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief) in Lesotho. The Media Outreach Coordinator, with supervision and guidance from the PEPFAR Country Coordinator and the Public Affairs Officer, manages the design, implementation, and coordination of all PEPFAR communications activities. The job holder will promote the multitude of on-going PEPFAR programs in Lesotho through traditional and electronic media and by using strategic public outreach. The job holder will work directly with the Mission’s Public Affairs Section, USAID, CDC, Peace Corps, and all PEPFAR implementing partners as well as all domestic and international media.
EXPERIENCE: A minimum of three (3) years of progressive, professional-level experience in the development and management of a communications program and/or experience working in a private sector or government office is required.
JOB KNOWLEDGE: Familiarity with development programs and related issues in Africa required; Thorough knowledge of such programs in Lesotho is required. Familiarity with development projects related to the health sector in sub-Saharan Africa or similar environments required; such experience in Lesotho required.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants are expected to hold at least a Bachelor’s Degree in public relations, journalism, or related subject that affords an understanding of the techniques and systems for communicating PEPFAR in Lesotho to a complex set of audiences and stakeholders.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
– Effective communication skills with groups and individuals as well as writing quickly and clearly to convey often complex concepts in simple language is required.
– The incumbent should also have excellent event coordination skills and multi-tasking abilities.
– Ability to use software programs for internal management and presentations outside the Mission is required, especially proficiency in MS Office suite and desktop publishing.
– Experience in web-page design software is required.
