The Maseru Preparatory School is currently looking for dynamic, and education-focused Head of School with school leadership, educational
and managerial skills including experience in financial management. We additionally desire to have someone who can put in place systems
of regular performance monitoring of teachers and experience in internationalizing academic curricula. Proficiency with the Cambridge
curriculum and a track record of effective school leadership are essential qualities for the ideal applicant. The ideal candidate will have a
wealth of teaching experience with the know-how of how to run a school in line with regulatory authority procedures. The focus of the role is to manage teaching staff, ensure the curriculum is followed, and ensure the wellbeing, safety and healthy learning of students.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
School leadership
- As the school’s CEO, set the school’s values, strategic direction, and vision, and foster a safe, positive school climate and culture.
- Collaborate with community members to support student learning and report the school’s performance to the local community.
- Foster strong relationships with students, staff, parents, and the wider community.
Management and administration - Communicate with parents and keep them informed about school news and their children’s development.
- Ensure the safety of all children in the institution and respond appropriately to crisis or emergency situations.
- Ensure the implementation and continuous improvement of the school’s policies, procedures, systems and curriculum.
- Oversee the recruitment, hiring, and retention of high-quality teachers and support staff
Academic programme coordination
- With assistance of deputy head of school and heads of departments ensures Maseru preparatory school programmes effectively incubate students to appreciate multiculturalism and are prepared to be international students and global citizens adaptable to different environments without having a culture shock.
- Create a diverse, dynamic, and inclusive environment among the teachers and students in the management and academic programme coordination.
Systems of regular performance monitoring
- Select, train, support, and evaluate teachers and other staff, and provide guidance to help resolve issues with students.
- Lead and support the professional development of all staff members.
- Implement safeguarding procedures as required.
- Provide reports on performance, financials, and improvements to the school board – subcommittees’ chairs.
Internationalizing academic curricula
- Create an academic programme that meets international standards such as Cambridge curriculum, oversee teaching, and ensure classes meet the governing body’s requirements.
- Assess students’ needs and development, monitor their progress and resolve behavioural issues.
- Participate in professional development activities and keep up to date with new educational innovations and technologies.
- Collaborate with the school’s senior leadership team to drive academic excellence and a culture of continuous improvement.
Financial management
- Develop policies and control school finances and ensure financial responsibility.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant financial regulations and standards.
- Manage the school budget for all required expenditures such as learning materials, salaries, and also extracurricular activities.
Fundraising
- Plan and oversee campaigns and events to raise funds and other kinds of assistance for the school, ensures that campaigns are effective by researching potential donors and examining records of those have given in the past.
- Business acumen and /or experience in fundraising within context of private / independent school management can be an advantage for sustainability.
Qualifications and experience
- Post graduate degree in education with minimum of 5 years of experience in a senior leadership role, preferably as a Head of School with Masters’ degree in education or a related field with at least two years’ extensive knowledge and understanding of the Cambridge curriculum.
- Proven track record of successful school leadership and achievement of academic excellence
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
- Clear understanding of child protection policies and procedures in schools.
- Experience working in an international school setting is preferred.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse staff and student population.
- Demonstrated ability to implement processes, and procedures and follow compliance.
- Able to adapt quickly and professionally to a changing environment.
- Good understanding of health and safety regulations.
